After getting a new Arcade Stick at Christmas, I’m not pretty confident I’m back to the level of play, if not a bit better, than I was with a pad back in the day. So now I seriously start my Journey into the depths of the Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition 2012 metagame!
For the most part I’ll be playing and uploading from PC, purely becaues I don’t have a capture card for my PS3! I’ve had my first PC online games this past weekend, after lots of losses to much higher ranked players I eventually found some players of a similar skill level (i.e pretty low!) to have some proper battles with! And I even started winning, at first rounds and then even a few games. I’m not sure if I’ve really shown much improvement so far, even though I made it from 0 to 350 PP (before a late night losing streak took me down to about 220) I still lack any real defensive skills, and therefore lose a lot of life simply because I suck at blocking… While I’m still not sure how the Upload Replay function works, I did manage to upload my first Replay last night – while it was terrible I shall aim to upload that here soon – mostly so that people can see what level I’m starting at to then be able to see how I’m progressing as I upload future videos. I was given a lot of advice on http://www.shoryuken.com (SRK) when I first started. I planned, as ever, to main Akuma, but a lot of people said I’d be better off starting with Ryu to learn the fundamentals. So I spent a lot of time in the training room with Ryu, but ultimately found it a bit boring, even though they have similar move sets, I just found Akuma so much more enjoyable! But I’ll admit this last weekend, while I have won a few games with Akuma online (got to about 300BP) I’ve actually been spending a lot of time with Juri online and in the training room. So could be interesting to see which character I end up maining in the end, but either way those are likely to be the two characters you see the most! Problem wise with both of them is too little blocking and far too much jumping. With Akuma I use my jumping hadokens defensively, often jumping back and shooting them off, which has worked against more inexperienced players, but anyone who knows what they’re doing just blows me up! And likewise with Juri i do a lot of random dive kicks. Though I’m showing improvement at getting the read on the fireballs and punishing with the dive kick, likewise with random full screen focus attacks that a Dudley player was doing a lot of last night. Hopefully on SRK I can find someone willing to jump online with me and help me out with learning the fundamentals of the game, hopefully I can learn to block and play the footsie game more effectively as well as getting some combos down. |
